Aloha!

Someone asked me which of the sites we will be visiting am I most looking forward to seeing, and I responded “Jerusalem”. Jerusalem because this is the city where all that Jesus did during his life led him to for all of us, for all of Christianity. I look forward to our traveling together on this special journey to the Holy Land, and share with me my first visit to Jerusalem but so many other significant sites of our faith.

Monsignor Terry Watanabe

The Reverend Terry Watanabe was born in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii and currently serves as Pastor of St. Theresa Church in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. Father Terry was ordained on August 26, 1977 at St. Anthony Church in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. In 1993, Pope John Paul II conferred Father Terry with the honorary title “Prelate of Honor to His Holiness”.

Monsignor Watanabe is a graduate of St. Stephen high School Seminary in Kaneohe, Hawaii, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii and received a Master of Arts degree in Theology at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, California. His diocesan ministry with the Roman Catholic Church in the state of Hawaii spans 18 years and includes appointments as Vicar General to Bishop Joseph Ferrario, Vicar Forane for the West Honolulu Vicariate & Consultor and Director for the Office of Affordable Housing. A priest for 34 years, Father Terry’s parish ministry began in 1976 as a Seminarian in training at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City, Hawaii and continues today as Pastor of St. Theresa Church in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.

Msgr. Watanabe actively serves as a member of numerous church and community organizations, including the Diocesan Planning & Building Commission, the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) Board of Directors and the Faith in Action for Community Equity agency where he serves as President. A truly dedicated and inspirational member of the local community, Fr. Terry is known for his tremendous appreciation for family, friends and fellow parishioners. His faith, along with his insights and candor, are genuine and heartfelt and his knowledge and experience are a constant source of inspiration.
