Day 1: October 01, 2009 – Thursday – Departure from Honolulu

Depart Honolulu on an evening flight for Europe

 

Day 2: October 02, 2009 – Friday – Travel Day

Day 3: October 03, 2009 – Saturday – Arrival in Belgium & Brussels City Tour

Welcome to Belgium, home to the main institutions of the European Union and headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

We will be arriving in the morning.  After claiming our luggage we will depart for a ½ day Brussels City Tour via motorcoach. After lunch (on own), we will check into our hotel.

You will be free to relax for the remainder of the day; for the more adventurous, you will have time to explore the beautiful surroundings - our hotel is located in the center of the city, so there is a lot to experience just outside our hotel doors.

 

Day 4: October 04, 2009 – Sunday – Mass at Fr. Damien’s Tomb & Visit to the Damien Museum

Meals Included: Breakfast

Today we will visit Father Damien’s home town of Tremelo.  Our tour will include stops at the Damien Museum and the Town Center.  We will continue to the city of Louvain for a special Mass at Saint Anthony’s Chapel, the location of Father Damien’s tomb.  Louvain is known for having exquisite medieval buildings. It is said the magnificent 15th Century Town Hall is worth the trip alone.  There will be a special celebration in Tremelo this afternoon and evening.

We will return to Brussels after the celebration. 

 

Day 5: October 05, 2009 – Monday – Day Tour to Bruges

Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a full-day city tour of Bruges via motor coach. Bruges is the capital and largest city of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium.  Because of its cultural importance, the historic city center of Bruges has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. 

After our tour, you will have free time to walk along the cobblestoned alleys and canals for shopping and sightseeing . You will have time for lunch on your own in one of the town’s charming café’s.  Lacework and chocolate are just a couple of the items to put on your shopping list today.

 

Day 6: October 06, 2009 – Tuesday- Transfer from Belgium to Rome

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy your morning at leisure -  take a stroll through town or enjoy a relaxing morning before we say goodbye to Belgium.

We will meet mid-morning to travel by air to Rome where we will meet up with Tours B & C. After collecting our luggage we will transfer via motorcoach to the hotel for check-in.  After check-in you will have time to relax before our first group dinner.

Dinner will be at a local Restaurant


Day 7: October 07, 2009 – Wednesday – Papal Audience with Coliseum, Forum & Catacombs Tour

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer via motor coach to Mass at St. Paul's. We will then visit Vatican City for the Papal Audience with the Holy Father in St. Peter's Square (subject to the Pope’s schedule). After the Papal Audience, there will be free time for lunch and shopping.  After lunch, we will meet at St. Peter's Square and depart via motor coach for the Coliseum. We will enoy a walking tour of two historical sites: the Coliseum & Forum.

The Roman Coliseum, first opened in 80 AD, could hold between 65,000 – 80,000 people.  A lookout platform has been added to give you a better view of the labyrinth of brick cells, ramps and elevators used in ancient times.

We will continue to the Roman Forum which was the center of ancient Roman life.  The Forum contains some of the oldest and most important structures in Roman history, such as the Royal Residence and the Roman Senate.

The next stop is the Catacombs, where thousands of ancient Christians were buried in a series of underground galleries. 

This is a guided tour where all participants will be provided whisper audio guides to better reveal the secrets of this historical site. Whisper audio guides are used with a guide and enables you to make sure you can hear everything the guides are saying.

Day 8: October 08, 2009 – Thursday – Full day tour to Assisi with Mass in Assisi

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch (Assisi)

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart via motor coach for our full-day guided tour to Assisi (whisper audio guides will be used). Assisi is a small Umbrian town located in central Italy. It is the birthplace of St. Clare and St. Francis. Assisi is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy, with its Roman ruins, winding medieval streets, and sacred shrines.

We have a memorable lunch planned for you today. Enjoy your free time exploring this unforgettable city!

 

Day 9: October 09, 2009 – Friday – Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica with Scavi Tours

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for St. Peter’s Basilica. We will attend a private Mass with Bishop Larry Silva.  Following Mass, we will separate into groups for the Scavi Tour. The Scavi Tour will take us under St. Peter’s Basilica and will end at the tomb of Pope John Paul II.  There will be free time to explore the Basilica on your own after our Mass and between the Scavi Tour.

St. Peter’s Basilica underwent a rebuilding process in 1506 under the reign of Pope Julius II.  Michelangelo, who served as main architect, redesigned the dome in 1547 and Bernini designed the great St. Peter’s Square in the mid 1600’s. The Canonization of Father Damien will take place in St. Peter’s Square.

Day 10: October 10, 2009 – Saturday – Vigil Mass for Fr. Damien & Tour of Baroque Rome

Meals Included: Breakfast

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart via motor coach for a tour of Baroque Rome. This tour will include Rome’s most famous attractions: the largest Baroque fountain in the city, Trevi Fountain (don’t forget to throw in a coin to ensure your return trip to Rome!), the Spanish Steps, the Piazza Navona with the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (fountain of the four rivers) and the Pantheon.  The Pantheon, built as a temple to all gods, is the oldest standing dome structure in the world.

The Vigil Mass for Father Damien will take place today; our schedule will be adjusted once the time and place are announced.

 

Day 11: October 11, 2009 – Sunday – Canonization of Father Damien

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart to St. Peter’s Basilica for the Canonization of Father Damien.  The Canonization will take place in St. Peter’s Square in front of St. Peter’s Basilica.  We have made arrangements for seating at the Canonization. We have a limited number of tickets - you will be advised in the registration process if we reach capacity.

As of March 2, 2009, we have reached our capacity for seats to the Canonziation. The tours will still operate, however those that register after March 1, 2009 will not be guarantee as seat. You can still attend the Canonization in St. Peter's Square in the general viewing area. We will have guides to assist you to find a spot in the general viewing area. There will be big screen tv's so that you do not miss any aspect of the Canonization.

The Canonization is scheduled to take place in the morning. After the Canonization, we will stay for the Papal Audience.

Dinner will be at a local Restaurant

 

Day 12: October 12, 2009 – Monday – Hawaiian Mass & Vatican Museum with Sistine Chapel Tour

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin a full day tour starting with a special Hawaiian Mass with a Relic of Father Damien.  After Mass, we will visit Vatican City to tour the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. We will nt have to stand in line ourside the Vatican Museum, as special arrangements have been made.

Dinner will be at a local Restaurant

 

Day 13:  October 13, 2009 – Tuesday – Departure from Rome – (overnight in airport hotel)

Meals Included: Breakfast

It’s time to say goodbye to Rome. After breakfast, we will begin our journey home. We will depart Rome for our final destination of Honolulu, HI. We will overnight before continuing onto Hawaii.

Special Note:  The return flight will have a stop-over in New Jersey or California depending on which flights you are scheduled on. Transfers to and from airport and hotel accomodations are included in the package price.

 

Day 14:  October 14, 2009 – Wednesday – Departure from Newark or California to Honolulu

Today we will depart from Newark or California for Honolulu, Hawaii.
